UNICEF, with support from the EU Africa Trust Fund and within the framework of ‘Recovery, Stability and Socio-economic Development in Libya programme’, handed over two boreholes in Surman municipality.

In coordination with the Ministry of Water Resources and Surman Municipality, UNICEF supported properly sited, designed, and constructed boreholes to increase the coverage of improved drinking water supply.

Thanks to this project, around 20,000 individuals including children will have access to safe and clean water in Surman Municipality.

Formulated jointly by the European Commission and Italy, the ‘Recovery, Stability and Socio-economic Development in Libya programme’ enhances access to basic and social services for vulnerable people and support local governance, in particular in the Libyan municipalities most affected by migratory flows.

It supports the capacities of local public authorities and administrations in providing basic services – health, education, water and sanitation as well as social services – while improving timely and quality access to these services, in particular for the most vulnerable people.
