The Chellah Jazz festival, one of the key cultural events of the European Union in Morocco will be back from 29 September to 2 October 2022 within the ramparts of Chellah in Rabat after having been postponed in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic.

Since its creation in 1996, the festival has become one of the capital’s most significant musical events. The festival’s identity originates from encounters between European jazz musicians and Moroccan musicians of all genres. It is organised, under the theme of European jazz and Moroccan music, by the European Union in Morocco in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication. This 25th edition, long awaited due to coronavirus, will once again be mainly focused on using music to promote intercultural dialogue between Morocco and Europe.

“We are delighted to be able to announce the return of the Chellah Jazz festival, which we had to postpone on two occasions due to the health crisis”, stated Patricia Llombart Cussac, European Union Ambassador to Morocco. “We had to show resilience and creativity to relaunch this 25th edition, which marks a very special anniversary. We look forward to welcoming the public for these 5 days of entertainment which promise to be exceptional”.

In fact, for 4 days, all types of European jazz musicians and Moroccan musicians will be invited on stage to offer new concerts where jazz will mingle with the rich sounds which abound in Moroccan musical heritage.   Alongside the concerts, a number of activities such as debates and masterclasses will be included in the programme.
