On 16 and 22 September, EuroMeSCo held the Connect and Kick Off Meetings of the last two out of the five Joint Study Groups 2020. The objective of these meetings, that involve an audience of 15-20 experts and policymakers, is to bring the members of the Joint Study Groups closer to the current policy debates in different EU and regional institutions, while ensuring a policy-oriented approach throughout their research.

The coordinators of each group presented during the meetings their research lines aiming to receive the experts and policymaker’s feedback on the objective, structure, approach and methodology of the research project in order to establish a roadmap for the resulting Policy Study.

The Joint Study Groups will tackle the issues of Covid-19 Related Opportunities for Terrorist Groups and Cyber Resilience in the MENA. Each group is made up of a selection of 4-6 experts from different think tanks and research institutes of the Euro-Mediterranean region that will jointly produce a Policy Study expected to be released in the first quarter of 2021.

The three other Connect & Kick Off Meetings (post-Covid-19 EU-MENA-Africa trade relations; Beyond Networks, Militias and Tribes: Rethinking EU Counter-Smuggling Policy and Response; A Euro-Mediterranean Green Deal? A Joint Study Group on Green Economy in the Southern Mediterranean) were held last July.

EuroMeSCo is a network of 104 think tanks and research institutes from 29 different Euro-Mediterranean countries coordinated by the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) and currently implementing the project EuroMeSCo: Connecting the dots, co-funded by the EU and the IEMed.
