In the framework of the EU-funded South Programme IV, the Venice Commission is organising the 11th UniDem Med Regional Seminar entitled “Towards a user-oriented administration” in co-operation with the Ministry of the Economy, Finances and Public Administration Reform of the Kingdom of Morocco. This seminar will take place as a videoconference from 13 to 15 October 2020.

It will bring together around 60 senior international experts and public officials from seven Southern Mediterranean beneficiaries (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia) with the aim to exchange best practices on modern user-centered public administration based on rule of law and democracy principles. Participants will discuss among others: access to public information and transparency, data protection, quality management, e-government initiatives and civil service ethics.

The main objective of the UniDem Med Campus (University for Democracy) is to contribute through peer-to-peer exchanges to the modernisation of the administration in the Southern Mediterranean by enforcing law and consolidating institutions. The project aims to strengthen the legal capacities of senior civil servants in areas related to good governance, rule of law and human rights, as well as to strengthen the links between the public administrations from the region.

South Programme IV continues assisting Southern Mediterranean countries in building a common legal space together with the EU, with a focus on reforming Southern Mediterranean countries’ legislation and reinforcing their democratic governance institutions as well as accompanying reform processes. Good governance building, strengthening rule of law and respecting, protecting and fulfilling human rights are strong pillars of the South Programme.
