The second online meeting on international assistance and support to the countries affected by the Covid-19 crisis “Case Study of the Euro-Mediterranean Region”, organized by EU-funded PPRD South 3 took place in the presence of about 30 participants, including representatives of the partner countries, DG ECHO, Norway, Romania and the most affected Italian regions.

Italy made a general presentation of the international support and the different types of assistance received.

DG Echo then gave an overview of the activities of the ERCC, the Emergency Response Coordination Centre, during the crisis: the ERCC repatriated 88,750 passengers in 354 flights. The European Civil Protection Mechanism was called upon 52 times and 25 requests could be taken into account.

Countries such as Norway, Romania and Tunisia, which came to support Italy, then shared their experience and the logistics required to set up such assistance.

The Italian regions receiving aid also shared their lessons learned from the crisis.

The overall objective of EU-funded PPRD South 3 is to contribute to increasing resilience and reducing the social, economic and environmental costs of natural and man-made disasters in the ENP South region, based on the results of the PPRD South Program and the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM).
