The first project of EDU-SYRIA / EDU-JORDAN Scholarship programme, which is funded by the European Union through the European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI) and the European Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis (Madad Fund), and managed by the German Jordanian University, came to an end.

In her keynote speech,Her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan noted during the virtual closing ceremony, the importance of this programme and highlighted the vital achievements the programme has accomplished since its launch in 2015, such as graduating 700 male and female students with high qualifications that enable them to enter the labor market.

Ambassador of the EU to Jordan, H.E. Maria Hadjitheodosiou, stressed that “Our commitments remain the same since the beginning – to help ensure the education of a generation of displaced Syrians through predictable, multi-year funding, with solid partnerships. Education remains a key area for our engagement because we believe firmly that education and knowledge are a vital part of living in dignity and the key to shape a better future.”

The EDU-SYRIA/EDU-JORDAN programme is part of the EU-funded project to support higher education for Syrian refugees and vulnerable Jordanian youth, aiming to provide young students with opportunities to pursue higher education (bachelor and master’s degrees), vocational education, technical training, special entrepreneurial training, and labour market-oriented courses, as well as summer programmes for high school students.
