TunisiaEgypt hosts EASO Regional Conference
The Head of the European Union Delegation to Egypt, Ambassador Christian Berger, opened the “EASO Regional Conference on International Protection and persons with specific protection needs in North Africa and Niger” on 12 October 2021 in Cairo.
In his opening remarks, the Ambassador welcomed successful cooperation between EASO and Egypt, both bilaterally and in the region. He encouraged Egypt and EASO to continue their approach of jointly designing roadmap activities to support and develop asylum-related capacities. The Ambassador mentioned the EASO Regional Pilot Project for North Africa as a very good example of an EU Member States Team Europe approach.
Finally, the Head of the European Union Delegation mentioned that the EU-Egypt high-level dialogue on migration, including asylum & protection matters, is planned to take place in Cairo in the coming weeks when European Commissioner Johansson and Senior Officials as well as the relevant EU agencies will visit Egypt.
