TunisiaCyberSouth: National workshop on cybercrime procedural law in Jordan
A national workshop, held on 20 October 2020, gathered the Jordanian stakeholders in charge of drafting and enforcing the legislation on cybercrime and electronic evidence.
This online workshop was an opportunity to introduce the procedural powers from the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime and to assess whether such legal tools were included in the Jordanian existing and draft legislations and if they were limited by the appropriate conditions and safeguards.
Representatives from the Ministry of Justice – judges and prosecutors, General Intelligence Department, Jordanian Judicial Council, as well as the Jordanian Armed Forces and Public Security Department took part and contributed to the discussions.
Moreover, this activity helped the Jordanian authorities better understand the international standards on cybercrime procedural law and safeguards and introduce their legislative tools and procedures for conducting cybercrime investigations and collection of e-evidence. Recommendations for the harmonisation of the national legislation with the provisions from the Budapest Convention were also provided.
CyberSouth is a joint project of the European Union and the Council of Europe. It contributes to the prevention and control of cybercrime and other offences involving electronic evidence in the region of the Southern Neighbourhood, in line with international human rights and rule of law standards and good practices.
