As a follow up to the support activities of the latest years, the Egyptian Gas Regulatory Authority GASREG requested the technical assistance of the Association of Mediterranean Energy Regulators (MEDREG) in 2020 on the topic of the development and implementation of Third-Party Access (TPA) rules and activities. In this framework, MEDREG has organized a study visit for GASREG to the French regulator CRE (“Commission de Régulation de l’Energie”).

The study visit considered and explained the main questions and possible answers that characterize the application of TPA in the national French gas sector and, more broadly, in the European context, focusing on the role played by the regulator in implementing and monitoring it, addressing also the tariff structure options and methodologies for the access to the gas infrastructures.

Since the establishment of GASREG in 2017, MEDREG has been continuously supporting its Egyptian gas member throughout the peer-to-peer sharing of experience and good practices, with the aim of reinforcing its technical and regulatory capacity as a leverage for the development of its gas market.

MEDREG is the Association of Mediterranean Energy Regulators, which brings together 27 regulators from 23 countries, spanning the European Union (EU), the Balkans and North Africa. Mediterranean regulators work together to promote greater compatibility of the regional energy markets and legislation, seeking progressive market integration in the Euro-Mediterranean basin.

MEDREG promotes a transparent, stable and compatible regulatory framework in the Mediterranean Region fostering infrastructure investments, consumer protection, and enhanced energy cooperation. Based on a bottom-up approach, MEDREG acts as a collaborative platform for regulators from the Northern and the Southern shore of the Mediterranean to exchange technical knowledge and good practices while supporting each other to reinforce their regulatory capacity.
